Remembering 9/11. We all remember what we were doing and how we found out…and HOW WE FELT….that empty, kick in the stomach, break your heart sensation that never goes away. Today while arriving at my clients house (housekeeping), I got there before her youngest went to school (2nd grade). She was all dressed in peace signs. Peace sign t-shirt, peace sign hair ribbons and peace sign leggings. She shouted “Happy Patriots Day”. Her mom saw my shocked look on my face. I tried to recover and said..”Oh, is that what they are calling it?”. Her mother explained to me that she was taught in school that this event is patriots day because it brought our country together. Yes, we did come together by our shared grief which went beyond words. We went to worship places to ease our pain and remember the thousands of innocents who were lost. We replayed the entire event from the initial plane to the second plane and then the ultimate collapse as we gasped and cried. So….I realize children need to be taught carefully especially regarding something like this…but HAPPY Patriots Day is vile. Teaching solemnity is also part of life’s learning lessons. I remember. We all remember. It is NOT a happy day. THANK YOU ALL SAFETY SERVICES! You are appreciated and remembered on this day as well.
