Remembrance Day Poem By Alejandro Torres Cala Nervous, prepared Courageous, but scared I feel all these feelings, and yet I do dread Going to war, when I could be home instead Yet I still go to fight with my head held up high If I’m serving my country, I’m not scared if I die Filthy and sad My conscience is bad My eyes are red because I have cried From seeing so many friends that have died To be tasked with the job of taking a life This burden I carry caused all sorts of strife People dying, bullets fly If this is the end, I’m ready to die If only to smite Then why have this fight? Did we make this war just to make sorrow? But I can’t live in the past I must look to tomorrow Ashes to Ashes and Dust to Dust I’ll fight in this war, I’ll do what I must I’m weary of battle I want no more But if you want peace, prepare for war
