Remembrance…. Yesterday my wife Elizabeth and I lost our precious beloved dog and family member Rocky. This has been our third dog that we lost in our 18 years of marriage. The first dog Charlie which was a Lhasa Apso passed away in 1996 at the age of 16 years. Charlie was with my wife a long time before our marriage in 1996. Our second dog Rocky who is a Brussels Griffon, was born on 12/16/1999 and we bought him in 2000 at 6 months old. Bandit our third dog and also a Brussels Griffon was born on 07/03/2000 and we bought him at 4 months old; he passed away in February of last year due to cancer and he was 14 years old. Rocky who died yesterday, had been going through the typical ailments that elderly dogs go through, like partial blindness and skin problems due to certain allergies in the past years. My wife who is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, was at work and myself who is an NYPD police officer and instructor was home after teaching a class at our new police academy in Queens from 2200 X 0600 watching over Rocky. In the early evening, Rocky and I were hanging out in the master bedroom on the bed and soon later, he started to vomit a little what appeared to be bile. Rocky then started to defecate his stool which he had not done in the past few days, he began wrenching his head back and with his last few breathes he passed away. I am trying not to lose it again and cry as I write these emotional words of my beloved Rocky. As I watch my dear dog and our companion for the past 15 years dying before me, I began crying uncontrollable, holding my dog and praying that I wouldn’t lose him like our previous two dogs before. Since my wife was still at work, I was so alone with my dead dog that I stepped out of our home and cried aimlessly as I walked in the cold looking for some comfort and consolation from my grieving pain. I still did not call my wife, because how do I tell her that our beloved Rocky passed away. I did ran into two of our neighbors who have dogs themselves and cried in their arms. So, I called my wife Elizabeth and broke the tragic news to her while I continued to cry like a wounded child. My wife who I love so dearly, comforted me on the phone and explained to me that Rocky was not alone when he died because I was able to be with him in his last moment on earth. She also said that God knows all things and knows that He we loved Rocky to the very end. My wife and I prayed to God to at least give Rocky one more year of life, but God gave us a day, for a year to us is a day for Him. God allowed me to be with Rocky so that he wouldn’t be physically alone. Hours before Rocky passed away, Rocky was walking around and constantly looking in the air around everywhere, because Liz and I know that what he was seeing were the host of heavenly angels and other animals, waiting soon for his arrival. God Knows All Things! Liz and I today on January 7th 2015, took Rocky to our veterinarian at Yorktown Heights Animal Hospital to arrange Rocky to be cremated. Our pets whether they are dogs, cats, birds and etc., are very preciously and so specially created and designed by our Heavenly Father to give what He gives to us all; and that is Unconditional Love! These beloved pets are our adopted members of all our families and when we lose them through death, we grieve so strongly for them. Liz and I do thank our Heavenly Father for allowing our dogs to come into our lives and in our marriage. Even though Liz and I don’t have any children of our own, Charlie, Rocky and Bandit were indeed our children of the four-legged kind. Yes, we will miss our beloved pets and that there is indeed a special place in heaven for these beautiful animals and a special place in all our hearts. For in the Bible’s Book of Revelation, the Apostle John is given a vision by Jesus on how He will return to the earth. Revelation 19:11-16 New King James (NKJV) Christ on a White Horse 11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had[a] a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean,[b] followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp[c] sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. So, if Jesus is coming on a white horse, then there are animals which God has allowed to be there with us all. Rocky was what every dog own ever wants in a dog; lovable, kissable, loyal, caring and full of life and vigor! Unconditional love is what Rocky gave us and the love of God was within him as well. Dogs Do Go To Heaven! Rest in peace my dear Rocky! 12/16/1999 – 01/06/2015 We Love You Rocky and Always Will! Mommy and Daddy
