Reminiscing watching the Eric Bristow story. I used to know every top sports person in all of the top popular sports thanks to my Dad who was an influential sportsman himself. I loved the excitement of watching the winning dart, the pot shot, the winning runs. Dad used to open the batting, score 100+ and still be in when number 11 walked out. I followed formula one racing, bike racing with the gorgeous Barry Sheen, darts, footie, swimming, snooker, track, field and cross country sports....and participated myself in a few too. Where did the time go? Dad died in 1976 when I was 19, and in 2 years I will be 60....how the bleep did that happen? Even when Dads cancer took hold and his leg was amputated, he was in discussions with the Met Police (he was an Inspector) to transfer to become a full-time sports coach at Hendon Police training college. He was a volunteer rugby, cricket and footie coach for many years, as well as Chair of our swimming club. Dad loved his life, lived it to the full and I miss him. Am sure wed have been great mate and had some wonderful conversations....if only.
