Renewal Topic: Suicide As A Process Of Cognitive Elimination -- In the 1970s, early in my career as a mental health clinician, the Lord showed me a visual mental picture which explains a lot of the process. In the visual, the person is walking down a long hallway with many doors. The first door is opened and has many opportunities and options ...some are recognized and some are not. The person enters in but rejects or discounts the options and proceeds to the next door where there are opportunities and options but not as many. The person may enter in but leaves rejecting the 2nd door and proceeding to the 3rd, 4th, etc .....with less and less options and opportunities....all of which are rejected or not recognized. At the last door, there is only one option left: suicide. This is all a progressive cognitive process of evaluative elimination initiated by a seed that is planted very early. With early detection there are multiple opportunities for intervention. Over time, intervention opportunities are still present. Be alert to self, others. opportunities.
