Rep. Murtha to Visit GDSI Employee as Part of Disability Employment Awareness Campaign Monday’s Visit in Amery is Part of the Take Your Legislator to Work Campaign Madison, WI – Rep. John Murtha will visit Clinton Duval at GDSI in Amery on Monday, Mar. 17 as part of the Take Your Legislator to Work Campaign, organized each year by the Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities. The campaign coordinates visits to workplaces between legislators and their constituents with disabilities who are working at community-based, competitive-wage jobs. During the visits, legislators experience first-hand the value of community-integrated employment for both people with disabilities and the state. When people with disabilities work in the community at a competitive wage, they are less likely to rely on publicly-funded programs. And, 87% of customers say they would prefer to patronize businesses that employ people with disabilities. “I look forward to visiting Clinton on Monday as part of the Take Your Legislator to Work Campaign,” said Rep. Murtha. “It will be an honor to have Clinton show me what he does and to learn how he got his job at GDSI. I believe our state is stronger when people with disabilities have jobs in the community.” Clinton Duval is an assembler at GDSI where he assembles and tests circuits. He enjoys working at GDSI and the challenges it brings. “It makes me feel like I work up to my potential,” Clinton said. GDSI received an “Exemplary Employer Award” from the Department of Workforce Development’s Division of Vocational Rehabilitation last year for the support they provide to people with disabilities. “I am accepted by everyone,” Clinton said. “It doesn’t feel like we are co-workers – it feels like we are one big family.” Rep. Murtha will visit Clinton at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Mar. 17 at GDSI, 709 S. Keller Ave., Amery.
