Report: Cancer Mortality Declining In US. NBC Nightly News (12/30, story 6, 0:30, Holt) reported that a report from the American Cancer Society “says there’s been a 22 percent drop in the death rate from cancer over the past two decades.” NBC News (12/31, Briggs) reports on its website that while “the pace of cancer deaths is falling in every state...Southern states have generally posted the smallest decreases (15 percent) while Northeastern states have marked the biggest reductions (25 to 30 percent), according to the data, published in CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians.” Bloomberg News (12/31, Cortez) reports that “four types account for half of all cancers in the U.S.: prostate, breast, lung and colorectal tumors. Progress has been made in reducing the incidence of prostate, lung and colon cancers, while breast cancer rates have leveled off in recent years, according to Cancer Statistics 2015.”
