Report Cards came home yesterday for Calhoun County Schools. My daughter is in the 2nd Grade, and has been on Honor Roll since she started except for the 1st 9 weeks in Kindergarten. She was so excited to get her report card. When she got home and showed it to me, she said, Mom, I made Honor Roll right? I said, No baby, not this time, hopefully next 9 weeks. I could see the hurt and disappointment in her eyes. Im disappointed myself because we spend 1 1/2-2 hours going over work everyday. The math they will be tested on tomorrow she doesnt even understand it, and Ive done all I can to make her understand it every day this week. She even sat there and cried right before my very eyes because she wants so bad to understand it but she just cant. We were both so frustrated this evening that we just pushed everything to the side, and I just told her to do the best she can. This has been the worst year thus far, and Im just ready for it to be over! Im tired of seeing my child constantly struggle when I know Im doing all I can at home to help her. I hate Common Core! It makes my child feel like shes stupid and me too half of the time. Half of the idiotic math I have to read several times myself before I can even comprehend it and Im 27 years old and have a nursing degree! Its just sad! With that being said, see yall in Jackson with bells on!
