Report: Deal sending Phillies Marlon Byrd to Reds fell apart Marlon Byrd is one of many veterans on the rebuilding Philadelphia Phillies roster expected to be moved this offseason, and general manger Ruben Amaro reportedly almost had a deal in place for the outfielder. The Phillies and Cincinnati Reds were close to a trade involving Byrd before it fell apart, according to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, who said a possible trade could still be reworked. Byrd is coming off a strong season in Philadelphia in which he hit a career-high 25 home runs while slashing .264/.312/.445 in 154 games. The 37-year-old is set to earn $8 million in 2015 and has an $8-million vesting option for the following year. The Reds are in need of an outfielder, but their interest in Byrd comes as a bit of a surprise, as they also appear to be preparing for a rebuild after dealing Mat Latos and Alfredo Simon earlier in the offseason.
