Report On Farmhouse Fire Released On January 2, at 21:23 hours, The Ascutney Fire Department responded to 43 South Mountain Road in Weathersfield for a reported structure fire. When units arrived on scene they found a two and one half story farmhouse with an attached barn, with heavy fire on the first and second floors. The fire department used two portable water monitors to knock down the fire and transitioned to an interior attack until they were forced out by heavy fire conditions. The fire was difficult to bring under control, and the fire departments braved temperature that hovered around 0 degrees. The fire was under control on the following day. The interior of the home was heavily damaged, but the attached barn and the farm animals were saved. No one was injured, but two of the owners pets perished in the blaze. No one was home at the time of the fire. There was no onsite water supply so numerous mutual aid fire departments were needed. The following fire departments assisted The Ascutney Fire Department: West Weathersfield, Springfield, West Windsor, Windsor, Reading, Hartland, Hartford, Proctorsville, Ludlow, Chester, Rockingham, Westminster, Claremont NH, Charlestown NH, Newport NH, Cornish NH, Plainfield NH. On January 4, the Ascutney Fire Chief requested assistance in investigating the cause of the fire from The Department of Public Safety Fire Investigation Unit. On January 5, two investigators from the unit responded to the scene and conducted an investigation. The cause of the fire is listed as undetermined. While the exact cause of the fire is unknown, it is not considered suspicious. The damage is estimated at $150,000.
