Report from Dranias vs. Wolverton Debate There were quite a few technical glitches, and it was a strange clash to boot. Dranias presented the case for Article V and the Compact from a scholarly and logical perspective. Wolverton did not really challenge Dranias argument with specifics, essentially lobbing open-ended questions to the audience and conducting himself like a preacher at a church revival. Interestingly, Wolverton did concede that Article V was meant to be used, that parameters could be found under which the states should use it, and invited the formation of a committee among Fivers and erstwhile Anti-Fivers to assess options for reforming the federal government and forming a consensus around the parameters for using Article V. Dranias accepted the invitation while stressing that the Compact and Article V are on the move and will remain so because we probably only have 3 to 7 years before the national debt becomes intractable. Dranias also underscored efforts made nearly two years ago by Compact for America to find common ground with Wolverton and the John Birch Society. We shall see what becomes of the proposed rapprochement in the coming days and weeks!
