Report from the far northern regions of Minnesota..... We took our annual after Christmas ice fishing trip to Sportsmans Lodge on the Oak Island side of Lake of the Woods. We fished on the 27th and 28th of December. Our first day was a bit slow. We had a few fish early in the morning and late in the day and a few pike in the afternoon but I dont think we even caught a dozen total for the day. We were the first group out for these guides all year so it didnt take them long to figure out where to move us for day 2. Thats when the utter chaos begun and really never ended. All day long we never went over 5 minutes without caching a walleye, sauger, or perch. Annette kept track of the fish as best as she could. At the end of the day we had in her journal 71 fish for that day. We had many more that we did not write down that got off just under the ice. We finished up our limit on walleye and sauger easily for our take home with the walleye being 17-19 inchers and the sauger being 14+. The bonus of the day is that there were jumbo perch scattered in there. 10 to be exact and all of them over 12 and up to 14. What a day of fishing!! Thanks to our guides at Sporstmans Luke, (pictured with Annette) and Whack for really putting us on the fish. Cant wait to see you next year.
