Report from the touring Tongan team - London Tag Rugby Championships – August 17 2013 IkaleTag’s Tongan representative team to the UK entered the tournament with the sole aim of winning the coveted Open Mens Championship title. The goal made reachable after 6 preliminary games with a record of 5 wins from 6 games. The Tongan team dropping the first game against Tag Me Maybe 3-5 after a disjointed start to the campaign. Tonga played The Paddies in its semi Final match and scraped home with a 5-3 win after the Irish-laden team put on a most spirited effort to supress the momentum Tonga had begun to build during the competition. The Open Mens Grand Final saw Tonga pitted against the Great Britain champions, Tag Me Maybe, Tonga looking to make amends for the earlier hiccup and the opposition looking to confirm their status as the best team in Great Britain. The Tongan team played superbly with 8 abled players halting everything thrown at them before David Taimani registered the first points of the game to give Tonga a 1-0 lead heading into the second half. The second half went the same way as the first with a great defensive effort from both teams until a timely break from the Tongan captain, Moana Mausia, who battled over 5 metres to beat the covering defenders to ultimately score the winning try of the final. Tonga crowned 2013 London Tag Rugby CHAMPIONS!! Congratulations boys from the IkaleTag family and the Tongan community all over the World! We look forward to the Great Britain test match where we welcome our tokoua, Wally Macguire, who has travelled from Australia to make his debut. HIKI KAU TAMA. HIKI!
