Report on Annual Sports Day 2013 - SCHOOL OF EDUCATION Report on Annual Sports Day 2013 School of Education organized a one day Sports day for its students of B.Ed and MA Education on the 16th of February 2013. Its objective was to develop in the students a sporting spirit, a venue to display their physical prowess and gain hands on experience of organizing a sports day at a school in future. The day was scheduled to begin at 7:30am at the Christ University campus, where the students assembled near the auditorium block. Two buses were utilized to transport the students to the Christ University Kengeri campus which was the venue of the Sports Day. All required arrangements were made there. On reaching the campus at 9:00 am, there was short break for tea. Ample seating arrangement and a tent was erected on the vast sporting grounds of the campus. The inauguration commenced at 9:30 am with an invocation song. This was followed by a welcome and inaugural speech by the chief guest Prof. Glady Jacob, administrator, Christ University, Kengeri campus his words of wisdom, especially drawn from his own personal life were inspiring and it set the tone for the day. Prof. Jose Cherian, Head of Department, School of Education, Christ University declared the sports day open. The judges for the day were eminent and experienced sports referees Mr. A Nagarjuna and Mr. M.S Nagarjuna. They guided all the sports events of the day with their fair and unbiased judgement. They patiently explained the rules of the games scheduled and graced the sports day with their expertise. The sports events kicked off with a motivating example set by the walking race for the faculty members of the School of Education. After this exciting start the various events lined up for the day quickly progressed. The students of School of Education were divided into 5 teams of 20 each with a faculty guide for each team. Exciting and energetic names were given to each group- Blue whales, Red bulls, White tigers and Black jaguars. Teams designed flags for their teams too. 100, 200 and 400m race for both boys and girls was organized. The much anticipated mixed relay race and boy’s sack race was followed by shot put and discus throws for both boys and girls. Long jump for boys and girls was followed by the girls three legged race which saw maximum participation. The events were finished off with the most energetic and cheered tug of war for the girls where all the members of the team competed against each other. After announcement of the winners by Ms. Greta D’Souza, the medals and certificate was distributed by Fr. Thomas TV, Director of the School of Education to the winners of each event. Overall best performance in all events was also awarded and the winning team was also applauded. His speech stressed the importance of sporting sprit. The prize distribution ceremony was completed by 1:30pm, and was completed with a photo session. The students were then led to the cafeteria for lunch. At 2pm Fr. Thomas TV, Director of the School of Education led the students on a guided campus tour which interactive while he patiently answered all questions and enthusiastically explained the Christ University attempts to maintain a green and eco friendly campus. This tour was greatly appreciated by the students. The tour ended at 3:30 pm and then the students boarded buses for the trip back to the main campus. It was an exciting day for the students of School of Education and the returning trip was filled with lots of nostalgic memories of the eventful and educational day. It highlighted the importance of the sports and a sporting spirit to these future teachers.
