Republicans hate the Post Office and are purposefully trying to destroy it. Americans consider the Postal Service their most trusted government agency,,. That’s because for six days a week since 1775, letter carriers have gone to the doorsteps of our homes and workplaces.. no matter how remote… …they even bring the mail via mule train to an Indian reservation on the floor of the grand canyon. – a route Fed Ex and UPS don’t do… because they don’t find it profitable… You see… a functioning postal service that connects everyone reflects a community spirit that Republicans hate … along with the postal service having the largest unionized workforce. So…Republicans are waging a waging a war on the postal service (along with their wars against workers, upward mobility, poor people, hungry people, , intellectuals, science, women, gays, education, health, infrastructure, voting, animals, pets, clean air, democracy and mother earth herself). Americas oldest institution functioned through wars – a civil war – recessions – depressions and the great depression and still functioned properly and generated a profit - until 2006 -when Republicans stealthily inserted a poison pill into the Postal Service forcing it fund future retirees health benefits for the next 75 years within a ten-year window. No.. it’s not competition from email and that the postal service just can’t afford it’s union, like Republicans say… because without that pre-funding burden – the USPS would have made a $660 million dollar profit. Republicans like Darrell Issa are blocking every attempt to remove the poison pill – they want to fix the post office alright – fix it real good - by destroying it. They deliberately put the postal service on life support so they could pull the plug. Like some greedy distant cousin who deliberately poisoned and put one of our relatives on life support – so they could pull the plug and raid his assets. Since BEFORE the founding of the nation, neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stayed these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds – until they encountered ALEC funded - Republicans. And we must not let them win. Listen to my Progressive Voices Two-Minute Tirade about it, here: tinyurl/m7yuew8
