Requests from world of DevoKeDev Mahadeva Lohitanga Mangala and Andhaka Lohitanga the latest villain du episode is introduced. I have not seen the episodes, the show does not come on any channels in my area, i have reviewed some episode synopsis which indicate they might be conflating the story of ANdhaka and presenting as Lohitanga. These are same people that brought to us Factually Incorrect StarBharata. Lohitanga As per Visnu Purana, Brahma created Rudra and his eight moortis. The third one was called Sarva and he married Vikeskhi (daughter of Harinyaksha??) and had son Lohitanga. He is a powerful and great god and has sons and grandsons. Sarva is the original Dhara Vasu. The God of earth. Sarva is one of moortis of Siva defeated by Arjuna in Kirata Yudhha. Lohitanga is also the name for Planet mars as Lohita means red and Lohitanga means with red anga. But that association of Lohitanga and Mars is etymologically later development. I do not have much more on Lohitanga except he is no villain. That brings us to Mangala. Mangala Mangala Mangala!! Shakta version Devi Bhagavata Purana Hiranyaksha kidnapped Bhudevi and she had Narakasura born from him. Thus, she is also called mother of Asuras. Vishnu came as Varaha and rescued her. The son of Varaha and bhudevi is called Mangala. He is also called Covva and is father of Ghatesha. They are great gods and God of Planet Mars. Narakasura and Mangala are brothers by this relationship. When Hrinyakshipu threw Prahalada from top of mountain to kill him, he was taken in the bosom of Bhudevi who is technically his aunt, Taiji and so was saved. The Saivite Version Rudra Samhita When Sati died, Siva was grief stricken and went into a deep meditation. A drop of sweat fell from him in this state onto Bhumi and the product of Union of God Mangala. He was made a navagaraha and was a great god, eventually God of landed propery and protector of wives. So in a way mangala is who protects Joru and Zameen. You need to worship Ajaikapada and you are covered for Zara also. All the fights happen because of Zara Zameen and Zoru. So if we all worship Mangala and Ajaikpada instead of these new fangled ideas like Siva and Vishnu, there will be no War!! Skanda Purana also has same story. Of course, I have discussed this before, Skanda Purana is a library of Puranas and another story in another version of Skanda Purana has the story where Siva had a son with Vikeksi who was brought up by Bhudevi and became Mangala. That is conflating the Mangala and Lohitanga legends. Again, that may be a later story. The Anagraka is the name for Mangala. That also means Red colored. Angaraka also means Tuesday the Mangalavara, Lohitanga does not mean Tuesday. Angaraka is the original word and older word than Lohitanga to be associated with Mars. So, Lohitanga may be Mars but i think that is later development. again, If Lohitanga is Mangala then he is never a villain. So i do not know where DKDM came up with a villain Lohitanga. I believe Lohitanga and Mangala are two different sons of Siva/Rudra. And both are good. Vaishanava Version I have not found one yet. I will look into it. Mahabharata Mangala avatar in Mahabharata is son of Arjuna called Iravana. That brings us to Andhaka Once Parvati playfully covered the eyes of Siva and the world was seeped into darkness, Siva opened the third eye and the world had light again. The heat of sivas eyes and the sweat from palm of Parvati formed the baby Andhaka. Hiranyaksha had no sons at that point and Siva gave Andhaka to be raised by Hiraynaksha. Andhaka became the Indra of Asuras after Prahalad and was world conqueror till he saw Paravati and fell in lust. Long story short, he learnt that Paravati is his mother and his eyes got burnt out. He became a ascetic and a big shiva bhakta and through his tapas pleased Siva who made him one of the Chiefs of his Ganas as Bhringi. I actually came across Rishi Bhringi at many places on many occasions. I have to gather those tales to present a composite picture of Bhringi. He is also one of Atharva samhitas Gurus. Vamana Purana makes the Andhaka born of the darkness caused by childish antics of daughter of Siva, who covered her fathers eyes. I have to check up on this daughter. Bhringi Once Bhringi went to Kailasa and began to go round Siva to pay homage to him. But since Parvati and Siva were sitting together as one body, he could not go round Siva separately. He did not have much reverence for Parvati. So he took the form of a female beetle (Bhringi) and bored his way through a hole made in the place where their bodies were united and thus went round Siva alone. Parvati was angry at this slight shown to her and cursed him to become physically weak. His legs became so weak that they were unable to support his body. So he prayed to Siva again and he blessed him with a third leg. In this way Bhrngi became a Maharsi with three legs. Andhakasura had among others a son Adi. Padma Purana story. Adi did penance to please Brahma and obtained from him a boon to seek vengeance on Siva who had murdered his father. The boon was that Adi would die only when he left his present form and took another form. After obtaining the boon Adi went to Kailasa and outwitting the sentries entered the abode of Siva in the shape of a serpent. After that he disguised himself as Parvati and went near Siva. But Siva recognized the false Parvati and killed Adi.
