Rescued this handsome man outside my house yesterday...you could - TopicsExpress

Rescued this handsome man outside my house yesterday...you could see he was old and very sick, and he was painfully thin... We were grateful to get an appointment with our preferred veterinary hospital today (Sunday)...our goal was to hospitalize him so he could get properly hydrated and run a full blood panel so that we could find out what was going on with him. We knew he was in bad shape, but unfortunately, he was quite sick. After doing some testing and some X-Rays to look at what was going on in his belly we found that his stomach was full of fluid, which is never good news. We did tap his belly to draw some of the fluid out. While we do not have an absolute diagnosis, it was a choice of FIP, cancer, or heart failure, all of which are horrible. And despite being willing to help him, he could barely walk or meow, and was already suffering. He was pale, extremely dehydrated, dangerously anemic and his skin was blue on his torso. His mouth was in horrible shape, absolutely adding to his discomfort, and he was not a candidate to be put under to pull his infected teeth. Always hard to make this choice, we did opt to put this poor kitty down today. I was so upset, as Id hoped to give him a chance--he never even got to have a decent meal. And as much as finances figure into these things all the time (a necessary evil), letting this kitty go today had nothing to do with money--we would have found a way to raise funds for him. He was extremely uncomfortable, very ill with a poor prognosis and already suffering. My son and I stayed with him while the doctor helped him go. Needless to say, we are heartbroken. All that we were able to give him was a single nights sleep--when I put him in a crate with a bed, all he wanted to do was lay comfortably where he was, as though he didnt have to worry about getting in out of the weather anymore, he was finally in a place where he could rest. If you would care to help our group with Dexters expenses, your donation would be welcome and appreciated. Summit Animal Rescue Assn. is a registered non-profit rescue and your donation would be tax deductible. 100% would go to his expenses, please indicate that your donation is for Dexter. Thank you always for your support in this work.
