Research has shown a strong correlation between children that can tell you 8 nursery rhymes at 4 years of age are often strong readers at the age of 8. Aside from providing vocabulary that children are not typically exposed to and exposing the child to language patterns, nursery rhymes are a great way to form and maintain a bond with young children. If you have a baby, start reciting nursery rhymes each day. Look at how you touch your child, change your voice for the different words, make eye contact with them, and move their little body. After they can easily do that, you can have them create a new nursery rhyme by changing one of the words.
