What have you learned from it? Do we sometimes think we have a great catastrophe that has fallen upon us? Very recently there were floods in Europe (Serbia, Bosnia, Siberia), and in Chile, South America. All these floods were caused by sudden heavy rains. Forest fires have affected us in Malaysia and our near neighbors, in Australia. A sandstorm hit Tehran on Monday (of this week), killing 5 and injuring dozens. What are your thoughts when these things happen? What are the things that you have all learned from all this? Please share your thoughts. 23 hours ago · Modified 23 hours ago by the commenter. Since 2010, at least the 30% of population and 70% of youth, we are all unemployed or partially workers in a country which has prices of Brussels and wages of former Eastern Europe. Yes, I know, it is not a physical catastrophe, like a flood, an earthquake, a tsunami etc, but I can confirm you that, with an increasing number of suicides: huffingtonpost/2013/09/10/greece-suicides_n_3900906.html it is like being bombarded with a typical war bomb. And, of course, official statistics never reveal the true size of the problem. So, I have survived 4 years now in the economic disaster named Greece. 11 / 0 · 23 hours ago [Beata Borowska-Beszta] Beata Borowska-Beszta · 22.45 · Nicolaus Copernicus University Dear Miranda fortunately I not experienced any catastrophy related to weather, technology, terrorism, evil relationships etc. I live since 1989 in a peaceful country. The only major macro-fact was associated with getting independency from the USSR on 4th June (today!) in 1989 after communism since 1945 while the end of WWII. Difficult times were introduced with state of war in Poland anonuced on 13th December 1981 and finally ended on 22th July 1983. Those particular times were characterized by general scarcity, poverty, persecution of people. When state of war started, I just went to high school. What I have learned during the hard times? - Survival in any hard conditions. Although the scale was big in comparison with those mentioend by Miranda, the flood brought misery and causes a few death and a huge amount of financial losses. The main reason is that a alrge part of England is quite flatand water has no where to go. Weather in recent years seem more extreme in the UK. Some people attribute these to global warming. 6 / 0 · 21 hours ago [Miranda Yeoh] Miranda Yeoh · 33.81 · Kolej Matrikulasi Selangor, MALAYSIA (Selangor Matriculation College) @Beata, @Ouyang thanks. Beata, when Poland was in the war period, they had some form of Underground, right? :))) Ouyang, I remember the floods in UK, and the accidents involving the Tube. I was not in a fighting unit but the atrocities commited and testified were appaling - from every side involved since there are no such things as all inocent victims and all terrible assassins - and even today I still have nightmares about that. War might be the most terrible type of catastrophic situation. For me it certainly is. Everybody suffered extremely (Bosnians, Serbs, Croats) especially civilians including elderly people and children who gazed at us as if incredulous about how such horrors could be possible.
