Researchers may have developed a dolphin-to-English translator that works in real time, and by this summer, they may have a two-way communication system. Just over a year ago, Matt and I conceptualized a facebook platform for dolphins that would allow us to befriend and interact with dolphins. The idea (aside from TALKING2DOLPHINS DUH) was that in doing this, it would create an awareness of how non-human creatures can operate functionally in the real (read: human) world with the aid of things like technology. It would also more clearly showcase that non-human creature can be sentient, emotional, and that weird mix of shit that happens when you blend the two. I never dreamt that such a thing might actually be possible or sought after in my lifetime. Excitement hardly describes this feeling.
