Reserve Bank India decided to withdraw the pre-2005 bank notes, in a notification. The most visible difference in the post-2005 notes is that the year of printing appears at the bottom center on the reverse side of the bank note. TILL 31 MARCH 2014: All currency notes issued prior to 2005 will remain in use. FROM 1 APRIL 2014: You can approach any bank, including the one you have an account with, to exchange the old series notes issued before 2005. FROM 1 JULY 2014: If you are not a customer of a bank, you need to produce your ID and address proofs, to replace 10 pieces or more of Rs.500 or Rs.1000 denomination currency notes. Before 30 June 2014 there is no restriction. Therefore, you need not rush or get hassled to get your old notes replaced.
