Resident Evil 5 Retribution Review: The first thing that needs to be mentioned is that it may not be the last movie in the Resident Evil series as everyone said. The very Ending of this movie very clearly keep an possibility open for another Resident Evil movie after this one.. This movie has many characters from the previous Resident Evil movies,, Michelle Rodriguez from Resident Evil 1 who is actually an clone as she dies in the same movie. Carlos Olivera from Resident Evil 2 Apocalypse who is an clone too as he died in Resident Evil 3 Extinction. Jill Valentine also from Resident Evil 2 Apocalypse who is an real human not an clone but is controlled by the Umbrella Corp via the Mind Control Spider in her chest same that was used on Clare in Resident Evil 4 Afterlife. And Luther who was in Resident Evil 4 Afterlife and had survived till the end of the movie. Story: Anyways the movie starts where Resident Evil Afterlife Ends, in RE4 Alice and her friends in the end of the movie reaches an boat that is controlled by Umbrella corp. There Alice and her friends fight an powerfull part machine part human boss of the umbrella corp and defeats him. Then Alice was helping the human survivors on board that ship. This movie starts from there, a massive umbrella corp army attacks the ship and starts to kill everyone on board the ship. Alice fights them but fails to escape and gets captured by the umbrella corps. After her capture Alice is brought to another Major Base of Umbrella Corp that is situated in Russia Kamchatka under and fully frozen lake. In this base of umbrella corp there were several copies of cities like New york, Moscow, Tokyo etc, these cities were actually labs where the umbrella corps tested the T virus and its after affect in an controlled environment. So Alice wakes up here in an interrogation chamber of this base where Jill Valentine beings to interrogate Alice. But soon the system fails and Alice gets an chance to escape the interrogation room, she finds out that she was helped by none other but “Whisker“, whisker is an senior commander of Umbrella Corp. Whisker tells Alice that he needs Alice’s help to fight an war and for that he needs Alice to escape that Kamchatka base and reach Whisker. Whisker also sends in an Japanese female agent to assist Alice’s escape and an group of 5 mercs also to help Alice in her escape and fight against the T Virus Created Mutants and Jill Valentine once friend of Alice, who now works for the Umbrella not willingly but via mind control. So Alice teams up with this Japanese umbrella corp agent who also used to work for the corp and starts to reach the exit of this underwater base, the only way to get out of this base is via one major lift system which takes to the surface. As the base used some cities models as controlled atmosphere for testing their virus they also made clones of the people to play the people in those cities. One of those clones was Alice herself. One of her clones was assigned an role of an common house wife who was married to Carlos Olivera and had an daughter who could not speak (Remember very well that all these characters including Alice are clones) so when another test was run this clone Alice and her husband who is clone carlos olivera dies leaving behind their daughter who could not speak, the real Alice finds this little girl as she was making her way towards the exit and takes her along. The plot is basically simple on one side Alice along with the Japanese female agent and that little daughter of clone Alice goes towards the exit on the other hand the mercs gets inside the base and hold and position, fight an group of trained zombies who can fire guns and drive vehicles.. In resident evil 3 Extinction it was shown that an umbrella corp doctor was working in an method to train zombies this is the highly modified version of that experiment. Alice fights two Axe Mans, Axe man was introduced in Resident Evil 4 Afterlife. Also this movie has an giant Licker, Licker is an mutant who was shown in Resident Evil 2 Apocalypse. So there are some action sequences and Alice makes it to the lift and gets off the base the story is very limited, Alice’s main enemy in this movie is Red Queen who is an program designed to contain the T virus epidemic and who wants to destroy all humans, Red Queen sends in some soldiers of her own which is the same merc team from the first ever Resident Movie that team has Michelle Rodriguez Clone and Jill Valentine,, they were send to stop Alice from escaping. When Alice makes it to the ground Jill Valentine and Michelle Rodriguez Clone take an sub from the base and reach ground. Alice fights Valentine and the two surviving mercs Leon and Luther fight Michelle Rodriguez, Rodriguez takes an shot of Super T virus and become superhuman strong, she almost defeats both the male mercs on the other hand Valentine almost defeats Alice. But Alice manages to take off the mind control spider from Valentines Chest so Valentine becomes good again. Alice just breaks the ice on the surface of the river and Rodriguez drowns. Although she do not dies only being contained for the time being. Alice along with Jill Valentine, Leon and the Japanese agent and the daughter of clone Alice reaches Washington USA there they meet Whisker, Whisker gives an injection to Alice it was T Virus. To make Alice Super Human again. (Alice was superhuman after she was given T virus in the second movie she lost her powers when in the 4th movie she was injected with an antidote that destroyed the T virus In her body after this movie she will be superhuman again) Whisker tells her that Red Queen the computer program has taken over whats remaining of the Umbrella corps facilities and is creating mutants using T virus and that Red Queen wants to destroy all mankind. Now Whisker who is an Umbrella corp boss who created the T virus now needs The Super Human Alice to fight against Red Queen and her T Virus Mutant Army. My personal opinion The movie has some good fight scenes but its not really as someone would expect an Resident Movie. The Scope of the movie is very limited and it gets a bit slow during the middle of the movie. The story is really very short its basically escaping an underwater base. The looks of this movie is average the Giant Licker does not impresses neither the Two Axe Mans who die a very easy death. The movie do have many characters from the past movies but totally fails to utilize them in the best manner. The movie could have been made way way better with all those people around. Michelle Rodriguez just comes around to play one of the lead villain as an superhuman fighter. Jill Valentine is villain for the whole movie but turns good in the end. I will say it was an average action movie. Nothing really needs this movie to be seen in the big screen. If you are an resident evil fan still you will feel this movie does not really stand up to expectations. 4.6/10 rating from me.
