Response from Arriva: Dear Mrs Drake Thank you for your email - TopicsExpress

Response from Arriva: Dear Mrs Drake Thank you for your email concerning Ruabon Railway Station. Our aim is to maintain a positive policy of improved access to our services for customers with disabilities and will work closely with our rail industry colleagues to achieve this where they are responsible for the provision or ownership of facilities. Network Rail is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the main rail network in Great Britain. This includes the railway tracks, signalling systems, bridges, tunnels, level crossings and viaducts, they also own the stations which we manage as part of our rail franchise. You can download a PDF file of our guide, Making Rail Accessible: Helping Older and Disabled Customers which details the services that customers with disabilities or special needs should expect when travelling with us. This guidance explains how we are working to make our services more accessible and how we help support the interests of people who are disabled or may have difficulty accessing the services or facilities at railway stations. It has been produced in accordance with the Department for Transport (DfT) guidance and they have approved it. I understand that the north bound platform at Ruabon is only accessible via footbridge with 52 steps but assure you we are committed to ensuring that products, services and environments are available to as many people as possible and the railway industry as a whole is committed to improving accessibility. Our guide states that we will provide, without charge, a suitable alternative accessible service to take a disabled person and their companion to the nearest or most convenient accessible station from where you can continue your journey where you are unable to travel from a station which is inaccessible to you (such as because of a physical constraint). We will not require you to pay these expenses and subsequently reclaim the cost from us; we will arrange a suitable taxi and meet those costs. Youll need to call our Assisted Travel Line on 0845 300 3005 for this. I hope that the above information is helpful but if you have outstanding concerns or anything further to add that I may not have considered already then please dont hesitate to get in touch by return.
