*Response to the Death of Guest Blogging* Theres a lot of chatter following this post from Matt Cutts (mattcutts/blog/guest-blogging/) - and thought a brief response from us would be wise. 1. Overdoing any one activity for SEO is likely to lead to failure in the medium term, including #GuestBlogging 2. You should produce excellent content for your own site and, where appropriate, for others sites. 3. Matt Cutts says you can do posts for other websites so long as other goals are the primary purpose - e.g. marketing at large, brand awareness, publicity etc. This means even with a nofollow link a quality guest post will be worth doing to raise awareness of your business and send traffic (if youve chosen your blog correctly). 4. If in doubt, dont include a link to yourself at all. Get attribution - e.g. Martin Oxby of Summit Web Solutions. That might raise brand search traffic for yourself, which is good. 5. Avoid automation of ALL kinds where SEO is concerned. So dont stop contributing excellent content to worthy websites, but do it with caution and with other goals as well as #SEO in mind.
