Rest in peace, sweet Zoey Idaho 2010, who passed away untimely this morning. Her adopters in Walnut Creek, California, wrote: This is a very sad note to tell you that our little Zoey, the deafy JRT whom we adopted in May of 2010, has died. For the past two years or so she has struggled with idiopathic epilepsy, suffering many cluster seizures until we were able to get it more or less under control with Zonisamide. The seizures took a significant toll on her though, permanently changing her personality and wiping clean her memory repeatedly. Yet, she puttered along pretty gamely and bravely. Over time, we were able to walk her off leash and she was always a good--if not a bit offbeat--little companion. In recent months, in the dog park, she would always seek out the people and warm their hearts with her gentleness....Then the night before last, she apparently had a major seizure and somehow worked her way past the protective screening on our deck. She wandered in the dark (5:00 a.m.) down to the road where a passing motorist found her circling in the road. She was taken to a vet who scanned her chip and got her reconnected with us. While there were no apparent injuries, she was acting very strangely. She was extremely restless through the night. She was also, as far as I could tell, almost completely blind, apparently from the seizure. I put her in a large crate with a soft pad and she died sometime early this morning. She was an odd little girl, but shes left a huge hole in our hearts. Thank you for sharing her with us. We hope that the life we provided her was better than what it might have otherwise been. Zoey was only 6 years old. She had been purchased as a puppy for an elderly bedridden terminally ill woman in southern Oregon, and when her owner went into hospice care, Zoey had ended up with relatives in Idaho. She was the very first PilotsnPaws rescue flight for us - a private pilot very generously donated his time flying from Seattle to Fruitland, Idaho, to pick her up and bring her to Kelso for JRR OWII. She was indeed a gentle soul - fascinated by the movement of light on door glass and on water. Torn from her loving family way too soon. Rest in peace, sweet girl.
