Reticello - Italian glass with a small network. This technique is one of the most challenging in glass making. It first originated in 16th century Murano as a decorative technique. By taking a gathering of caning, the artist then fires and works the glass to create a solid form. This is then blown out to create glass with very small caning running throughout, known at latticello. To create the reticello pattern, one form is created and then set aside while another grouping of caning is made, then the two are blown together into the final object. With the double layers of latticello, a crisscross diamond pattern is formed usually with a tiny air bubble in the middle of each diamond. Corning Museum of Glass produced a fantastic video showing this very challenging technique, linked below. https://youtube/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=xCrdewFgObc
