Retired Headmaster dies while hoisting flag as pole touches live NAGAPATTINAM/KUMBAKONAM 16th August 2013: AM In a tragic incident that dampened the mood during Independence Day celebrations here on Thursday, a 65-year-old retired headmaster was electrocuted when a flag pole came in contact with a live wire. Gnanasekaran (65) was a retired headmaster residing at Marungur village near Thirumarugal block. Prior to the celebrations, a teacher from a nearby panchayat union school, Tamilselvi, invited the retiredheadmaster to preside over the function at the school. As the school was near the victim’s residence, Gnanasekeran said he would arrangeto have a flag pole erected in the school. Overnight rains had dampened the soil and as the victim was hoisting the flag, the pole gave way and came in contact with a live electric wire. Gnanasekaran died on the spot. Thittacherry police registered acase and investigations are on. Girl Falls Off Train A student of the Thanjavur Kundvai Naachiar Government Arts College for Women fell to death from a moving train on Thursday. Police sources said, Parameswari (21) was on the way to her college to partcipate in Independence day celebrations. When her train was between Sundaraperumalkoil and Uthani Railway gate, she fell off the train. She was being rushed to hospital by workers at an orchard when she died.
