Revealed: Country where Fuel is cheaper than Water Don’t be surprise, it is true!! In this country water is costlier than petrol. Petrol costs about N2 Naira per litre!! In Nigeria the cheapest satchet water is N5 or N10 for 50cl or 60cl (0.5-0.6 litres). In Venezuela gasoline is the cheapest thing, most motorists can fill up their tank with less than $1 (N90). Average car contains about 12 gallons of gasoline (about 45 litres). Gasoline is so dirt-cheap in Venezuela that you can hardly find anything to compare it with. According to some Venezuelan drivers: “It’s cheaper than water” others say “It’s Cheaper than air”. A sport utility vehicle (SUV) owner boasted: “The cheapest in the world, we could wash our hands with it.” Why is fuel so cheap in Venezuela? Venezuela sits atop the world’s largest oil reserves, and its government sets the price of premium gasoline at about 5 cents a gallon (3.785 litres). Unlike in Nigeria where petrol is so costly and scarce atimes, unlimited access to virtually free gasoline is like a Venezuelan birthright, and raising prices is considered the third rail of Venezuelan politics. Deadly riots broke out in 1989 at the possibility of a price hike. Not even Hugo Chávez, who died last March after 14 years in power, dared to mess with the pumps. Subsidizing the world’s cheapest gasoline costs the South American OPEC member about $12.5 billion a year, the government says. Nigeria in contrast spends about $6 billion a year in subsidy but gasoline (petrol) costs close to N100 (N97) Naira a litre GOD BLESS NIGERIA
