Revel Marketing Examines the Qualities of Introverts and Extroverts Between our clients and our colleagues here at Revel Marketing, we encounter a wide range of different personalities on a daily basis. Each has its own unique qualities, and we appreciate them all. These experiences do spark our collective curiosity, however, so we set out to learn more about different personality types. We started with the basics on introverts and extroverts. It seems that, in our culture – especially in business, extraversion is highly valued. Sociability is rewarded, and research indicates that social people, in other words extraverts, are happier than their inward-focused counterparts. In fact, even introverts report that they are happier when they act like extroverts. Some conflicting information exists regarding intelligence and these personality types. There is some indication of a link between extraversion and intelligence, although it’s been highly debated. Other studies have found a higher correlation between introversion and college grades than IQ and college grades. In fact, college students who prefer to study alone, as introverts are apt to do, generally learn more over time than their peers who belong to study groups. Things get a bit more complicated when you look at the issue in light of leadership ability. Extroverts are more effective leaders of passive team members, but introverts are the best leaders of proactive individuals. Based on an organization’s environment, then, the type of leader with the most potential to guide it to success will vary. Now that we at Revel Marketing have some basic insight into personality types, we look forward to learning more about how to maximize everyone’s potential accordingly as we seek out other diverse characteristics that can contribute to our firm’s success.
