Ribbon Cutting at Kosciusko Park From the Parks & Recreation Department Join Mayor Anthony Copeland, The East Chicago Common Council and The East Chicago Park Board for a ribbon cutting ceremony at Kosciusko Park 151st street and Indianapolis Blvd. onFriday May 23, 2014 at 10am. The Playground equipment is on schedule to open for Memorial Day Holiday as promised. The City of East Chicago has been working closely with contractors to continue the scheduled improvements to our parks. There will still be some ongoing construction throughout the coming weeks. All the playground equipment will be installed and ready to use by Memorial Day Weekend. The following 2 phases are to be done simultaneously and include the following: Basketball Courts, Shelters, Fitness Equipment, Benches, Picnic Tables, Grills, Park signs/Way finding signs, Art sculptures, Improved landscaping, and Trash receptacles. These final phases are scheduled for completion by or before the Fourth of July Holiday. The City of East Chicago has invested over $2 million dollars to renovate our parks. The following Parks are schedule for these upgrades. • Tod Park, Kosciusko Park, Washington Park, Nunez Park, Callahan Park, Riley Park, Sunnyside Park, Roxana Park. Also, equipment from above parks that have been refurbished will be put in the remaining parks that aren’t receiving these initial upgrades. A commitment to further improving all the parks in the city has been pledged and will be noticeable throughout the upcoming years.
