Rich, We’ve been making great progress in securing funding and resources for food assistance programs that affect millions around the world each year. In the next couple of weeks a spending bill will be voted on by the House and Senate that will determine how much money a critical food assistance program, International Disaster Assistance (IDA), will receive in 2015. Share with Friends and Family So why is this program so important? Below are the facts: IDA funds emergency assistance overseas in disaster situations. Aid is provided primarily through cash resources (as opposed to commodities) which are more flexible and efficient, a significant portion of which is used for food assistance. The funds provided in this program are critical for WFP operations in places such as Syria, which rely on vouchers and local food purchase to support families inside Syria and refugees throughout the region affected by violence. Currently, WFP is facing escalating emergencies in Syria, South Sudan, Central African Republic and now Iraq. If sufficient funding is not provided, WFP may be faced with some tough decisions on who to help and which programs to fund. In the coming weeks, we will need your help in getting this bill passed.
