Rich and I came back to LA last night after an amazing trip to Sweden, Italy and the UK. I went first, teaching three days of clinics at the ELLA rock program in Gotland, and then Rich flew out to Stockholm to meet me. We visited my mother at her new permanent care facility in the countryside, met the wonderful staff and bought her some new clothes and things to decorate her nice, big room. Were so glad shes at a great place and that there will be no more moves. We then flew to Rome; got on the train to Florence right away, and spent 3 days in Florence, exploring new parts of the city and did a bike tour in the Tuscan countryside in the Chianti region. Fun tour group - 6 people all in all, and everybody was around our age or younger. Next, we spent three days in Rome, where we went up to the top of the dome in St Peters basilica, walked around in Trastevere, saw a major Frida Kahlo art exhibit with all her important works, had a picnic in the gardens of Villa Borghese, stumbled upon a Cappucine monk museum and saw their eerie art displays of skeleton parts, took a subway out to the suburbs on Saturday morning to see aqueducts, and during our endless daily walks around the city, we found one of Richs drum books translated to Italian in a book store! On our final leg of the journey, we flew out to London to spend Saturday night there. Yesterday, we got up real early and after having breakfast, we walked from the hotel through Hyde Park, passing Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abby and the Houses of Parliament, and wandered along the Thames all the way past the Tate modern art museum and St Pauls Cathedral until we hit the Towers of London. With throbbing feet, we took the tube back to the hotel, had lunch at an awesome pub, and then took off to Heathrow and the 11-hour flight back home to LA. Thankfully, we didnt come home to any weird plumbing drama this time!
