Richard Dawkins illustrating the weakness of the What if youre wrong? reasoning for belief in the Christian God. Some have claimed this to be an example of The Genetic Fallacy, it is not. The question attempts to appeal to ones fear of hell but overlooks the possibility that believers in the Christian God may also be wrong and gives examples of other equally plausible Gods that the Christians dont believe in, yet they have no fear of going to the hell at the judgement of those Gods. The Genetic Fallacy attempts to disprove a conclusion which is suggested based solely on something or someones origin rather than its current meaning or context. This overlooks any difference to be found in the present situation, typically transferring the positive or negative esteem from the earlier context. The fallacy therefore fails to assess the claim on its merit. The reason Dawkins statement is not a Genetic Fallacy is because of the lack of merit as Christians hold as a core tenant that faith overrides evidentiary merit. https://youtube/watch?v=6mmskXXetcg
