Richard Wayne Smedley Lansing Passed away Friday, July 25, 2014 at age 81. Born October 5, 1932 to William and Frances Smedley in Lansing, Michigan. Richard honorably served his country in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. Upon his discharge he went to work as the Electronics Chief for the U.S. Navy where he would later retire. Richard was an active member of the VFW, Forty Et Eight and American Legion. He was also an avid fan of the Detroit Red Wings. Preceding him in death were his first wife, Mary Jane; brothers, Leo and Lemuel Smedley; sisters, Jerry Smedley, Carol McDaniel; daughter, Sandra Bratschi and his parents. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Smedley; daughters, Karen (Robert) Thomas, Denise (Robert) Walker, Donna Butler, Patti (Lonnie Collins) Cuellar, Jodi (Bill) Fifield; sons, Michael Smedley, Richard (Deedee) Smedley, Jerry (Penny) Moore; 18 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Darlene (Paul) Huggins; brother, Frank Smedley; sister-in-law, Marilyn Smedley as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2014 at Skinner Funeral Home, Lansing Chapel. Family will receive friends from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
