Rico Day 58 #equinecomebackchallenge Busy day for Rico. The vet came and checked him out for his health certificate and gave him a rhino booster. Great news - his body score is just a hair under a 5! Hes still been eating about 20 - 24 lbs of THRIVE daily and Im going to slowly reduce that and see how he does. Since we worked on ground driving over the weekend, I thought he would enjoy something different and we worked on some obstacles he was familiar with and then revisited the sidepass. When riding, Ill be signalling him with my leg so I started by touching him on his barrel where my leg would fall and standing next to his head. Hes very responsive and within a few tries, moved easily away from me. I start with the horse facing the wall to avoid them walking forward when I first teach the physical cue. And, Rico has never met a wall he didnt like. :) This was the third time we have worked on this and hes doing wonderful. I try to teach as much as possible on the ground to make it as easy and clear as I can for the horse when Im on his back. Rico still has a little shorter attention span than average and we work on his timetable. That may also be due to his desire to crib. A Home For Every Horse youtu.be/qrp1ExzXPFQ
