“Right now, federal government workers receive far more generous retirement benefits than private-sector employees,” Burr said in the release. For taxpayers, he added, the cost is “unsustainable.” - What a joke... What Burr and his ilk fail to note is that many of the changes they are offering would force federal employees on to some level of public assistance - The fed is in a place to better negotiate cheaper benefits for public sector employees if it only would. Cowtowing to lobbyists folks like Burr refuse to enact laws that give the fed the power to use the size and scope of its employee base to provide inexpensive benefits to all federal employees, many of whom are veterans of this nations armed forces. I propose Congress focus on luxury items paid for at tax payer expense - perhaps they can close the Senate Gym, relocate those federal employees elsewhere in the system and thus save us hundreds of thousands dollars - I mean how many other federal employees have access to their own gym paid for at tax payer expense? I mean we can see it coming - first guys like Burr eliminate traditional pensions then raise the retirement age to 70 - so you can pay more taxes over your lifetime but get less benefit. Federal employees pay into their retirement accounts - they are not free loading and it sickens me that these hard working men and women are demonized as the problem.
