Right, very quick match report from todays friendly against the Mansfield Honeybadgers. The Vipers team of 8 vs the 8 men of Mansfield, it looked evenly matched. And it was. Anything they could do, we could do..better? Not really. It was it was back and forth all game, and there could only be one winner.. We scored, they scored, we got an INT they got an INT, we turned over on downs, they turned over on downs. It could have gone on like that all day. At the half, Vipers were trailing just 19-22. Mansfield experience stepped up though and made some good adjustments, exploiting some open space in the Vipers secondary for a couple of deep scores. Vipers had the ball for the final drive, down by 5, but with a low sun in the receivers eyes (thats our excuse and were sticking to it) causing 2 easy completions to end up in the dirt, the final completion ended a few yards short and it was game over, 36-31. Reece Ashby had a fine day out christening his new Nike Vapours with 2 TDs, one a sweet deep route he called himself (show off!). Other TDs by Ryan Martin, Mike Sullivan (and a nice one-handed grab on the sideline), and some fine interceptions (including a hand-to-foot-to-hand combo by Rudi Halfmann which Maradona himself would have been proud of. Pity it didnt count 󾍆). QB Virk had a great game as always, skills improvement noticed by our ringer and great route runner Martin Rudd, once of the Nottingham Hawks but now signed to the Vipers as a free agent. Always a great game when we play what seems to be turning out to be our new rivals, the HoBads. Cant wait to do it again guys. Go Vipers!
