THERE IS NO POVERTY OF MONEY ONLY POVERTY OF IDEAS. I hear this bandied about so much by motivational speakers it now gets on my nerves. I had reason to call the attention of one such speaker some time ago to this fallacy. It turned out that I knew a lot about him and I just pointed out a few of his ideas that as brilliant as they were hadn’t earned him a kobo regardless. I told him he was not being sincere with the audience. I think it is unethical. I have met people with brilliant ideas, who are poor and died poor. The person that invented the yam pounder is a Nigerian. He doesn’t even hold the patent. Brilliant idea, poor man. Mikhail Kalashnikov the Russian inventor of the AK-47 (the most popular weapon in the whole world) died a poor man at age 94. It was not a lack of idea that left him poor. For every one idea that gets rewarded financially, there are three hundred thousand others that are not even acknowledged. Talent is not enough. Ideas are not enough. Attitude is not everything. They are necessary but not sufficient conditions for success. You need something more than a good idea. You need something more than hardwork and diligence. You need a person that is willing and able to support your idea and give it life. You need a person that will give you a platform. I don’t care how talented you are or how brilliant you are with ideas, if you are not given a platform and support, it will amount to very little. But given the right platform, a clueless person will still go ahead to become richer than the wisest man without a platform. It may be wrong, but it is the reality. Otherwise, you may say in your heart, My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth. But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.… Deuteronomy 8:17,18 (NIV) You see wealth, money, prosperity is a function of WHO YOU KNOW, not WHAT you know. I say that not just in reference to the so called “man-know-man” principle in Nigeria, but as a universal basis for success and prosperity. It is either God will give you success as in Deuteronomy 8 above, or Satan will give you success. You must know and align with any of these kingdoms to get their backing for your break from poverty on earth. Ideas are never good enough. What you need is to go for the platform. Ask God for that person that will make a difference in your life. Do everything you can to get this platform and honor it when you are so favoured. Then seek to become a platform for others. As Christians our greatest platform is the Kingdom of God, our greatest supporter is the Holy Spirit. It will cost Him nothing to lift you up to prominence. He really does not need your ideas, as a matter of fact, it is He that will give you the right ideas and make the right people take it up and bless your life for ever. The bible declared it so beautifully well when it was written: when a man’s way please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. Proverbs 16:7. What it means is that even if your ‘market’ is bad, you will have a buyer because God is pleased with you. Even if your idea is stupid, you will get sponsors because you have a backing. Have you never listened to a singer on radio and know that you can do much better than that? Have you not watched a movie you know you could have written a better script for? Have you not seen a match in which you know that you would have played much better than one of the players? Do you think it is skill or ability or ideas? No. it is opportunity, and that opportunity is provided by a man, pushed by God or by the devil. In this 2015 I wish you grace – that underserved favour that empowers one beyond his wildest abilities and makes overachievers out of ordinary people like us. I pray that you have access to the right platforms to make your dreams come alive.
