Rights are something we as a society believe even the least of us deserve for simply being born. They are not something which was intended to protect the property of the wealthy elite. The American Declaration of Independence proclaimed the right to life , liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. All things I believe most of us would agree upon today. But when our founding fathers wrote the constitution, these rights were only afforded to freemen, wealthy white land owning males. Even back then, this represented only a tiny minority of the population. Since then, we as a people have fought and died to gain more rights. We died for workers rights. We died for black americans rights. We fought for womens rights.
