Rio 2016 Paralympic Games Qualification Criteria has been released! The International Paralympic Committee has released its Qualification Guide for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. The Guide can be found at the following link: paralympic.org/rio-2016/qualification The Guide outlines the criteria for all sports on the 2016 Paralympic Games program, which of course includes Sitting Volleyball for men and women. Both the Men’s and Women’s competitions will feature eight (8) teams of twelve (12) athletes, for a total of 192 sitting volleyball athlete spots (96 per gender). Below is the Qualification System summary for both the Men’s and Women’s competitions: • The host team - Brazil • The 2 top teams from the 2014 World Championships (scheduled for June 15-21 2014) • The highest team (not otherwise qualified) from the 2016 World ParaVolley Intercontinental (planned for early 2016) • The highest team (not otherwise qualified) from the 2014/15 Americas Zonal Championship • The highest team (not otherwise qualified) from the 2014/15 Asia-Oceania Zonal Championship • The highest team (not otherwise qualified) from the 2014/15 Europe Zonal Championship • The highest team (not otherwise qualified) from the 2014/15 Africa Zonal Championship Further details about the Qualification System and Timeline can be found on pages 79-83 of the Guide.
