Roach concerned about Pacquiaos weight ABS-CBNnews Posted at 10/30/2013 3:56 PM | Updated as of 10/30/2013 3:56 PM MANILA, Philippines – Hall-of-Fame boxing trainer Freddie Roach has some concerns about the weight of Filipino ring icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, promoter Bob Arum revealed on Ring TV. Pacquiao is in General Santos City to train for his November 24 welterweight bout against the hard-hitting Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios. Arum visited the boxer recently to observe the training camp, and while he came away impressed, he also noted that Roach is somewhat worried about the boxer’s weight. “As far as the weight, that’s been one of Freddie’s biggest problems,” said Arum. “Manny is working so hard, and he’s so light, that he’s eating five meals a day in order to keep his weight on.” “In other words, he’s probably five pounds under the welterweight limit (147 pounds). So Brandon is taller, his reach is bigger, and he probably, today, weights 10 more pounds than Pacquiao at 152 pounds today,” he added. “Manny was 142 (pounds) when I left him.” Rios is fighting for the first time at the welterweight division, but he points out that he is the bigger man compared to Pacquiao. “At the press conferences, I believe that he was smaller than me, so I’m not the smaller guy here,” said Rios. “If you believe that, then your eyes are deceiving you.” “I’m not smaller than Pacquiao. Pacquiao’s smaller than me,” he said. Pacquiao, however, has made a career of beating up bigger guys. On his way to becoming boxing’s first eight-division world champion, he defeated Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito, all of whom held a considerable size advantage against him. abs-cbnnews/sports/10/30/13/roach-concerned-about-pacquiaos-weight
