Roadrunners Need Extras To Reclaim Championship FORT WORTH, Texas— The Edinburg Roadrunners needed extra innings defeated the Fort Worth Cats to claim their second straight United League championship by a score of 10-6. Edinburg clinches series three games to two. Edinburg (3-2) scored a run in the top of the first as Michael Haynes drew a walk, and then stole second and third when Travis Clark hit an RBI groundout to score Haynes making it 1-0 in favor of Edinburg. Fort Worth (2-3) responded with three runs in the bottom of the first highlighted by Greg Bachman two run single that made 3-1. The Roadrunners responded in the second inning when Tim Battle hit his second homerun of the Championship Series trimming the Cats lead to 3-2. The Cats however responded with three runs in the fourth and fifth innings on defensive miscues that expanded the Fort Worth lead to 6-2. Edinburg trimmed the deficit in the sixth and seventh innings as RBI singles by Derrick Pyles and Jordan Etier made the game 6-4 in favor of the Cats. In the top of the ninth Edinburg tied the game at six, on a Logan Brumley error that allowed Etier and Haynes to score to send the game into extra innings. The Roadrunners regained the lead by scoring four runs in the top of the tenth inning as Tim Maitland hit a sacrifice fly and Etier hit a three run home run to make it 10-6 in favor of Edinburg. Alex Schmarzo (1-0) earned the victory pitching two scoreless innings for the Roadrunners allowing no hits and striking out two. Trevor Longfellow (0-1) took the loss for the Cats tossing one and two-thirds innings permitting six runs on four hits.
