Robbie still homeless! PARAPLEGIC Robbie Ramcharitar is working on finding a home, so he can leave San Fernando General Hospital. Ramcharitar said on Monday that he believes that he can no longer stay at the hospital, and is looking for a convalescent home to stay. “I know they are trying to get rid of me”, said Ramcharitar in a telephone interview with the Express. “I know that they do not want me here.” Ramcharitar, 46, who uses a wheelchair, was captured on a cellphone video allegedly being assaulted at High Street, San Fernando, last month. Two police officers were later charged in connection with the incident, which occurred on December 27. A female officer appeared for offences of assault and malicious damage, while a male police officer appeared for misbehaviour in public office. Ramcharitar had previously admitted that he had been “living“ in the hospital, citing spinal injuries caused by a fall from a coconut tree more than 20 years ago. Health Minister Dr Fuad Khan had instructed that Ramcharitar be taken from San Fernando General Hospital and admitted to St Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital, an institution for mentally ill patients. Officials at St Ann’s Hospital did not accept him and returned him to the San Fernando hospital. Ramcharitar told the Express that at St Ann’s, he was evaluated by a doctor, whom he told, “I am not mad.” On Monday, he said he was attempting to replace his Trinidad and Tobago identification card and birth certificate, which he lost more than ten years ago. He said after he obtained the documents he would apply to the State for the disability allowance and with that money he would pay for accommodation at a convalescent home. “I know I was wrong to leave the hospital and go to High Street for gifts. I was not expecting all of this to happen. It caused a big scene and I am hearing that it has reached all over the world. I can’t do much about it now, just move on,” he said.
