Robert Heinlein was what I would call a Utopian Libertarian - TopicsExpress

Robert Heinlein was what I would call a Utopian Libertarian trusting to mans better instincts and unfettered Anarcho-Capitalism to make the universe right. In a glaring contradiction to that basic philosophy, he also glorified a strong central government in total control of the military. In his worlds, he held militarism in such high esteem that only veterans could vote, and others had less than full citizenship and rights. In online debate and personally I often encounter people playing what I will call the Vet Card, as in Im a veteran you know. in situations where I see that having little or no relevance to the matter at hand. I of course thank veterans for their service, but I do not think that it grants or should grant any status over and above that enjoyed by any other citizen. Is playing the Vet Card any different from playing the Race Card? Should veterans be granted special status by virtue of their military service?
