Robert Holmans play Today premiered at the RSC in 1984. Starting in Guiseborough (where Holman was born) but including Cambridge and the Spanish Civil war, the ghosts of Eric Blair (the young George Orwell), DH Lawrence, Edith Sitwell and/or Lady Ottoline Morrell, William Walton with Facade, even Evelyn Waugh or Stephen Spender weave through the pages of its script. A test in confidence and style for the third year actors at Rose Bruford. Tim Stark has just thrillingly directed Holmans Jonah and Otto at Park Theatre. Photographs by Robert Workman.
