Robin, you will be sorely missed. Hopefully, in the wake of your passing, we as a society can finally address the disparity in the rate of suicides being 80% men. Maybe we can finally ask the really hard questions as to why the male gender is so prone to depression and suicide, and what we as a society can do to make sure our men know they can and should ask for help before they find themselves beyond their capacity to live another day. Earlier I reposted a picture by A Voice for Men which depicted what men believe we are viewed as, and how men perceive themselves. This picture is the most poignant example of what men in this society have become, and each of us likens ourselves to Atlas. We are holding up our worlds. But we arent Atlas, as no man is an island. Our society has deemed it necessary to offer a thousand ways to support women, and barely any to men. We have an 80% male suicide rate compared to women in this country. Domestic violence by women on men is now over 50%, and 70-90% of all custody battles end in female custody with huge and often financially destructive judgements lumped in. Men are subject to a draft at any time after 18, despite that havent had a draft in a generation it does not mean we are not subject to it. If you refuse, you have no rights in this country at all. Men, if you count prisoners, comprise the majority of rape victims in this country and men comprise more than 92% of prisoners (not inmates), and that is 15x the number of female prisoners. Yet here comes this popular Netflix show about female inmates (not prisoners), and all the problems they face, with accompanying paid advertising by Netflix about the plight of females in jail who cant get the right hair and skin products. We need to do something for our boys and our men. Now. We are the ones in crisis. Every time I mention this stuff I get crickets though, and this discussion will never happen because well forget about it when the next news story comes. We wont have that discussion, and men will continue to suffer in silence, their own personal Atlass, stoically holding up their worlds... until they decide to shrug.
