#RobinWilliams was such a beloved actor. There are so many postings on his passing that I still cannot believe he is gone. I alway saw the purity and the goodness in his soul. He smiled and made us laugh but I always saw the loneliness in his eyes, the window to his soul, especially in this film, my favorite of them all, What dreams may come. taken from Shakespeares Hamlet: “...To die, to sleep; To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, theres the rub; For in that sleep of death what dreams may come When we have shuffled off this mortal coil.... I actually cried in this film because it is painstakingly beautiful in many levels. You see I saw myself in his character, who for LOVE would go to the ends of the earth and beyond to find the only woman he loved and bring her back to him. If you havent seen this movie, it is deep and profound. It delves into religion, life after death, reincarnation, true love, soulmates, imagination, the sublime, Greek mythology and ironically, depression. The film retells the story of Orpheus who goes down to the Underworld to retrieve his beloved Eurydice. His character, Dr. Chris Nielsen, was like Orpheus, the musician and poet who was able to swoon the gods with his musical charm that he was given a chance to find his true love who was wandering aimlessly in the pits of hell (underworld/ Hades)suffering from Amnesia because she committed suicide. Maybe I like it because its dark especially when he traveled on the river Styx, imagine Bosch and Goya images all around you. This clip is one of my favorite parts of the film because he tells her not to give up and apologizes for letting her down. Its epic and heroic and truly this is what love is supposed to be. I must say, his death is shocking that someone who was apparently brilliant, talented and successful wasnt happy. We have to embrace what we have in this life and cherish the ones we love because we may never find them again.
