Roger Federer dumped his chance to win the Monte-Carlo tournament - TopicsExpress

Roger Federer dumped his chance to win the Monte-Carlo tournament again, this time losing to countryman Stanislas Wawrinka, against whom he had a 13-1 record prior to todays loss (though his only loss was at the same tournament as todays). After winning a close first set, he didnt play a very good tiebreak in the second set, losing it 5-7, then played an awful third set, winning only 17 of the 45 points in the set and being broken twice to lose. For whatever reason, the ATP site doesnt list winners and unforced errors for a match, but I know from the stats at the end of the television broadcast that Wawrinka had something like 22 winners and 23 unforced errors, while Federer had about 18 more unforced errors than winners, a very sloppy match indeed. Wawrinka was playing well, but Federer should have won this one, particularly seeing how well he played against Novak Djokovic in the semifinal. Now, it seems unlikely Federer will ever win Monte-Carlo, as he had the good fortune of having someone else beat Rafa Nadal and played an excellent match to get past an apparently injured Djokovic, but couldnt beat someone hed had little trouble with in the past in the final.
