Rolling Stone is reporting on its website that American rock pioneer Lou Reed has died aged 71. The Velvet Underground frontman has been credited with shaping a new wave of rock n roll music in the 1960s and has continued to be a hugely successful songwriter and guitarist. Rolling Stone describes the Velvet Underground as the most influential American rock band of all time. The report says Reeds cause of death has not been released. Reed underwent a liver transplant in May.
