Roman Catholics were busy co-opting solstice festivals throughout Europe to pacify ruckus pagan traditions from the 4th century through the Middle Ages. In an effort to assimilate developing Christian mythology into ancient pagan traditions, early Christians stole many Scandinavian and Germanic themes (holly, mistletoe, Yule logs and Santa Claus). Im saddened consumerist pop culture still leaves out the best parts. It is little surprise that without a punishing counterpart, the Santa myth produces such entitled children.
